Because of constriction of the efferent arteriole, blood is under high pressure in the glomerulus and water and other small molecules move into the glomerular capsule. This fluid is called filtrate and about 45 gallons are produced each day. Most of the water and many other molecules are reabsorbed as the filtrate moves along the tubules. Some substances are secreted into the filtrate by active transport across tubule walls.
